Court Clerk Position - Full-Time
Start Date: May 1 - 15, 2021
Compensation: Starting $65,000 depending upon qualifications and experience

The Town of Rye seeks two dedicated individuals to join the newly-expanded Justice Court serving the constituent communities of the Town including the Villages of Port Chester, Rye Brook, the unincorporated area of the Village of Mamaroneck (a.k.a. Rye Neck) as well as Westchester County Airport.

Effective May 14, 2021, the Village of Port Chester will dissolve the Village of Port Chester Police Justice Court. At that time, the Town of Rye Justice court will expand to absorb the caseload of the Port Chester Court by adding two additional justices, three court clerks and support staff. The office handles a range of matters including: criminal, traffic, civil, and housing.


The candidates for this position could be called upon to handle court mail and correspondence, enter cases on the court docket, prepare and issue summonses, handle criminal information, prepare criminal folders, pull criminal case folder for calendar, send letters for vehicle & traffic pretrial conferences & trails; set up folders for traffic court: download e-tickets, e-payment processing, complete certificates of convictions and forward dispositions to the Motor Vehicle Bureau in Albany, State Police, Westchester County Department if Public Safety, and local police; collect fines, issue receipts, and maintain accounts of amounts collected; assist in the preparation of the monthly financial report and submission of same to the department of audit and control; prepare daily cashbook for review. May be required to be available for off-hour arraignments, nights and weekends. This position is subject to the Public Officers Law of New York State. New York State residency is required.

4 Years high school or equivalent; 2 years college; 2 years with specialization in court matters similar to matters addressed by Rye Town Justice Court; 5 years experience dealing with the public, ability to handle public situations as they arise, calm demeanor, able to take direction.


Working knowledge of mathematics, computer applications, records management, courteous interaction; must be able to speak, read, and write English. Spanish fluency is a plus. Thorough knowledge of principals and practices of office management; business arithmetic and office skills; ability to supervise and communicate well; knowledge of administrative practices.
