Beach Operations
The park's crescent shaped 1,200-foot long white sand beach offers the general public splendid access to the shores of the Long Island Sound. Three gates provide access to the beach. The north gate is near Rye Beach Avenue, and the south gate is on Dearborn Avenue. The center gate, which is usually the busiest, is located next to Seaside Johnnie’s Restaurant.
Schedule For Beach Operations – “Off Season” (mid-September until Memorial Day weekend). The beach is frequently open, but swimming is not permitted. There is no charge for beach access. Parking fees are applicable on warm days when crowds are anticipated.
The Park’s “In Season” begins on the Friday before Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day. Weather permitting, lifeguards will be on duty and the beach is open for swimming from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Parking and Beach admission fees will apply.
Lifeguard System and Beach Rules & Regulations – Beach operations are managed by a staff of over 20 trained and certified lifeguards. The lifeguard station and first aid center is located about 100 yards north of the center beach access gate. The Lifeguards determine and mark off the permitted swimming areas, according to weather and other safety issues.
Rules and regulations have been established to insure that beachgoers have a safe and pleasant experience. Things prohibited include:
- Alcoholic Beverages (except those purchased at beach snack bars)
- Large Coolers
- Glass Bottles or Other Glass objects
- Loud Radios
- Offensive Language and Behavior
- Indecent Bathing Attire
- Dogs & Pets
- Barbeques & Picnicking (by permit only)
- Bicycles
- Spear & Line Fishing
- Kite Flying;
- Climbing on the Rocks and Breakwater
- Volleyball and other games are permitted on Mondays-Fridays in designated areas only, prohibited on weekends and holiday
Parking and Beach Access Fees For Rye Town Park
The park and beach are open to the general public. You don’t have to be a resident to use the park. Persons can pay on a daily basis or purchase season permits, which provide discounts to people planning to use the beach and park frequently.
Residents of Rye City, Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye Neck get discounts on both daily rates and season permits.
Non-residents of these communities can also buy season permits, at higher rates.
There are three categories of permits for residents and non-residents: Senior; Single, and Family. For residents, there is a fourth category – Platinum.
Parking Only permits can also be purchased, which provide for unlimited free parking during the beach season.
All permit holders get free beach access on the fireworks evenings. And, they discounted parking in the pre-season (April 1 – May 26) and post-season (Sept. 6 – Sept. 30).
Daily rates for parking and beach access are higher on weekends than weekdays.
The daytime parking rates are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening rates run from 5 p.m. until the park closes – normally at 9 p.m. except on Wednesdays and Fridays when there are fireworks at Playland. Parking rates are higher on those nights for non-permit holders.

The permit office will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting May 8th.
