Program Will Authorize More Than $37,500 for the Village of Port Chester

(Port Chester, NY) ~ Westchester County Legislator Martin Rogowsky (D, WP-Harrison) is pleased to announce that the Village of Port Chester has received a $37,500 community development block grant (CDBG) from the federal government for the Don Bosco Community Center.  The grant, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs.  The grant will be used to create a summer teen night program for eight (8) weeks by the Village of Port Chester.

The Don Bosco Community Center has served the Port Chester community through recreational activities, neighborhood/community events, and by providing multi-lingual youth/adult social and supportive services.  The summer teen night program will allow over 275 low and moderate income at-risk boys and girls between the ages of 13-18 to engage in healthy summer activities.  This program will provde activities inculding learning center activities such as computer education, dance studio, arts & crafts, teen game room activities, recreational activities, leadership training and nutritional meals.

“I’m glad that I was able to help Port Chester and the Don Bosco Community Center in obtaining this grant, as this project will help provide encourage teens and keep them out of trouble,” said Rogowsky.   The annual CDBG funding plan is now in its thirty-fourth year and is a joint partnership involving the federal government, the County and the local villages, towns and city governments.
