Westchester County and United Way Financial Helpline
12/03/2010GOT MONEY QUESTIONS? WE’VE GOT ANSWERS
WestchesterCountyand United Way team up to offer Financial Helpline on Dec. 14 and 15
Almost everyone has questions about managing their personal finances, but it’s not always so easy to find the answers.
That’s why Westchester County is once again teaming up with United Way of Westchester and Putnam to offer a Financial Helpline. Simply by dialing United Way’s 2-1-1 helpline, callers will be put in touch with experts who can give free and reliable advice on many financial topics.
The Financial Helpline will be operating from 4-8 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 14, and Wed., Dec. 15. Just call 2-1-1.
The experts will come from local banks and credit unions, financial associations, and financial education nonprofit agencies who can answer questions on everything from budgeting and debt to pensions and investments. Callers can also get information about how to avoid foreclosure, pay for college or plan for retirement, or put together a personal budget. Whatever the issue, the experts will try to solve the problem, provide information or pass on referrals to free or low-cost programs and services.
Many local agencies offer helpful resources, counseling and individualized services that can help residents make better financial decisions as they cope with an ongoing economic downturn.
Community Capital Resources (CCR), a non-profit agency that provides financial and consumer workshops, is recruiting and training the volunteers who will be staffing the phone lines. A similar program was offered twice last year and brought in hundreds of callers.
Spanish-speaking experts will be available and a language translation service will make it possible to get help in other languages. More financial information is also available at www.westchestergov.com/managingmoney.
